Boxed cold brew, like boxed wine, uses a similar bag-in-box packaging system to help keep the cold brew coffee fresh and delicious, heres how it works:

Bag

Bladder (Bag):

  • The cold brew coffee is stored in a plastic bladder inside the box. This bladder is typically made from materials that are impermeable to oxygen and light, which can degrade the quality of the coffee.
  • By keeping the cold brew in a sealed bladder, it prevents exposure to air, reducing oxidation, which can alter the taste and freshness of the coffee.

Box

  • The cardboard box provides protection and serves as a dispenser for the cold brew. It is designed to be sturdy and to protect the bladder from physical damage.
  • The box usually features a spout or a tap, allowing for easy pouring without exposing the entire bladder to air each time cold brew is dispensed. This helps maintain the freshness of the remaining cold brew inside the bladder.

Quality Preservation

Unlike traditional bottles, which start to oxidize once opened and exposed to air, the bag-in-box format allows cold brew to stay fresher for a longer period after opening.

As the bladder collapses when the cold brew is dispensed, there's minimal contact with air inside the bladder, further preserving the coffee's quality.

The Palmour's Difference

Overall, the combination of the impermeable bladder and the protective box helps boxed cold brew coffee stay fresh and maintain its quality over a longer period compared to bottled cold brew once opened.
